Human Clowning

The recent debate on stem cell research and human cloning has got me thinking. Wouldn’t it be great if we could clone a sense of humour? The possibilities are endless.
Human cloning or 'human clowning' in this instance can bring an end to seriousness, boredom and depression once and for all. It may even help me realise a dream that I may finally find someone that finds my writing funny.
Everything from politics to education would be enjoyed for its humour rather than ignored for its seriousness. Election campaigns would be fought over gags and punch lines and the only Middle East crisis facing the world would be which stand-up show to catch in downtown Beirut.
Respectable publications such as HA! Magazine would also receive the recognition they duly deserve and be made compulsory reading for all students regardless of age. Kids would be asked to count the number of gags in a particular issue for homework.
The only issue with human clowning will be whose sense of humour we swab. We wouldn’t want this important development in the evolution of the human species to fall in the wrong hands. Whilst pillars of our society such George Bush, Bill Gates and even our own Prime Minister have all contributed greatly to the collective joke pool, we are most likely laughing at them rather than with them.
Then again I’m always available. Heaven knows, I could do with the extra help around the office.
