Hump Day
November 1st 2006 01:14
When I first heard Wednesday's referred to as 'hump day' I assumed that it related to the sex life of married couples. Now that could just be the way my deviant mind works but I had no idea that hump day refered to the middle of the working week.
I guess the analogy is that the working week is like driving to work in Sydney in the mornings. A cocktail of heavy traffic, a failing transport system and an array of morons getting in your way. Monday and Tuesday is about finding the motivation to wade through the crap. On Thursday and Friday you are heading downhill fast avoiding as many potholes as possible.
In that case, Wednesdays should be a time of reflection from this slightly elevated position. Take a look in the rearview mirror to see how far you have come and then take a look ahead and see how far you have to go to get to reach your destination; the blissful weekend.
My problem is that whenever I look in the rearview mirror I can still see my home in the distance and when I look ahead all I see backed up traffic moving at a snail's view of a snail pace.
I think I prefer my initial asssesment of hump day.
